Here at Buckeye Golden Retrievers, we raise both American and English Cream Golden Retrievers (also known as European Golden Retrievers). We specialize in the dark red American Golden Retrievers and the English Creams. We do also occasionally have a litter of the classic Golden colored retrievers.
One of the major differences and the most obvious is the difference in coat color. American Golden Retrievers range from a beautiful dark red to golden to light golden. English Cream Goldens are a stunning white color and also may have a light creamy shade to their coat.
The AKC does not classify American and English Cream Golden Retrievers as different breeds. They are both simply registered as Golden Retrievers. Golden Retrievers were first recognized as an official breed by the AKC in 1925.
The coat color does not make a difference in the lifespan of your Golden Retriever. Your dog's health depends on genetics and lifestyle factors, such as diet and exercise. The average lifespan of a Golden Retriever is 10-12 years.
Both American and European Golden Retrievers have the same loving, loyal, and calm personality. Some research shows that English Goldens are known to be more calm and laidback versus their American Golden Retriever relatives. Here at Buckeye Golden Retrievers, we have not seen a big difference in temperament. However, in general, I do agree with the sentiment that the English Creams may be slightly calmer in nature.
Shedding is very similar when you compare American versus English Cream Goldens. Both display an absolutely stunning coat of thick, water-repellant hair which they usually shed once or twice a year. They also shed hair moderately on a continual basis. Using a brush once or twice a week will typically remove the dead hair before it has a chance to fall onto your floor, furniture, or other areas. If your Golden is experiencing a period of heavy shedding, you may need to brush his coat once per day. An occasional bath for your Golden may be needed to keep them clean. As with other dogs, your Golden's nails should be trimmed on a regular basis.
At Buckeye Golden Retrievers, we work hard to build and maintain your trust. We have been breeding Golden Retrievers since 2005. Especially in the last several years, we have turned a much greater focus onto the genetic health of our puppies and breeding program. We feel this is a responsible and ethical direction to move in so we can provide you with the healthiest puppy possible. We look forward to meeting you and showing you why people love adopting from us!
